Dementia Awareness

Early in 2022, Harwich Town Council was accredited with ‘Working towards Dementia Friendly’ status.  Working with Agewell East, the council aims to help support those living with dementia and their families.

As part of this initiative the council has undergone the following:

Carried out dementia awareness training (refresher training to be held in November 2023).

Has fully funded ‘Music and Memory’ singing sessions, which are held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Park Pavilion from 2pm – 3pm.  No pre-booking required, just arrive from 1.30pm for a cuppa.

The Council will also be taking part in the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk in 2024 to raise funds for the charity.  We will be looking to set our own local route and distance(s) and we warmly welcome anyone who wishes to join us.

It’s important that Harwich Town Council understands the varying needs of its residents, and becoming dementia friendly will broaden its understanding and support of those living with dementia both now and in the future.

Please see the attached list of local support services and for further information on the support that may be available to you or a loved one, or how to become part of the dementia friendly community, please contact Agewell East on 0300 3733333 or enquiries@agewelleast.org.uk
