PLEASE BE AWARE THAT AS OF 11th November 2020, THE CHIEF VETERINARY OFFICER HAS DECLARED ENGLAND A PREVENTION ZONE TO HELP PROTECT POULTRY FROM A STRAIN OF AVIAN INFLUENZA AND RESTRICTIONS ARE IN PLACE.
ALL DOMESTIC BIRDS MUST BE HOUSED INDOORS WHERE PRACTICABLE, OR SEPARATE FROM WILD BIRDS. (WOULD SUGGEST A MINIMUM OF A SOLID COVERING TO BE OVER ALL ENLOSURES). Poultry keepers must continue to keep a close watch on their birds and follow detailed advice on biosecurity and welfare via the links below.

Poultry keepers and members of the public should report dead wild birds to the Defra helpline on 03459 33 55 77 and keepers should report suspicion of disease to APHA on 03000 200 301.
Any plot holders over 70 years and those with underlying health issues are to follow the guidance and information issued by the government.
Any plot holder who is self isolating because they, or a household member is ill with corona-virus, should NOT be visiting the allotment site.
Observe social distancing – Please ensure that all visitors to the site stay a minimum of 2 metres apart from others, avoid body contact and wash hands regularly.
Wear gloves, wash your hands or use hand sanitiser before opening and closing any gate locks.

Harwich Town Council manage six allotment sites which are rented out to local residents living within the parish of Harwich, Dovercourt and surrounding local areas. For a small annual fee, you will be able to enjoy growing your own fruit and vegetables whilst being out in the fresh air.

NON-PAYMENT OF COSTS INCURRED BY THE COUNCIL FOR CLEARANCE OF A PLOT FOLLOWING THE TERMINATION OF THE TENANCY
At the meeting of the Allotments Committee held on 5th November 2020, members
RESOLVED to adopt a policy of taking all necessary steps including the use of the small claims court to recover any costs incurred in clearing a plot where the committee considers it to be appropriate. Any action taken to include seeking to work with plot holder to bring the matter to a mutually acceptable conclusion.
A process for how it will be administered was agreed by members.
