MINUTES OF A MEETING of the GUILDHALL COMMITTEE
held on 15th JULY 2009 at 7.05pm
at the 1912 CENTRE, HARWICH, ESSEX

G01/09 APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE
Apologies for absence were received from Councillors P Burke,
R Callender and M Gardner

G02/09 APPOINTMENT OF VICE-CHAIRMAN
RESOLVED: that Councillor R Callender is appointed Vice-Chairman (in absentia, subject to his acceptance) for the forthcoming year.

G03/09 DECLARATIONS OF MEMBERS’ INTERESTS
None

G04/09 MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS
RESOLVED: that the minutes of the meeting held on 26th November 2008 (previously circulated) be approved by the Chairman and signed as a true record.

G05/09 ANNUAL REVIEW OF GUIDHALL HIRE CHARGES
RESOLVED: to maintain charges at existing levels.

G06/09 KINDERTRASPORT EXHIBITION
The Committee were advised, that over the two weekends of opening, 508 people had attended including some survivors of the Kindertransport. The Chairman thanked all councillors who had participated in the exhibition.
RESOLVED: to write to Mrs Anne Kemp-Luck and Mr Ray Plummer, Honorary Archivists, to thank them for all their hard work in putting together the exhibition. Also, to send thanks to Mrs M Coleman of Dovercourt Theatre Group and for the Mayor to write to the Association of Jewish Refugees and acknowledge its assistance in providing material. Members were advised that of a minor accident as the display noticeboard, placed at the entrance to the Guildhall, had blown over due to strong winds.
RESOLVED: to purchase an ‘A Frame’ notice-board, stating that the Guildhall is open, and with space for further details to be added.

G07/09 ANTIQUE SILVER PUNCH LADLE
Members considered exchanging the ladle’s rosewood handle for a whalebone replacement as recommended by Mr Ron Chapman, goldsmith and repairer of Harwich Town Council’s regalia.
RESOLVED: to retain the present rosewood handle.

G08/09 GROUP VISIT TO THE GUILDHALL
The Committee was advised of a request from members of Brightlingsea Society and Brightlingsea Town Council for a group visit to the Guildhall on 4th August to discuss the archive. Councillor Calver and Mr Ray Plummer will attend.

G09/09 2009 HERITAGE OPEN DAYS
Members noted that the Guildhall will be open for the 2009 Heritage Weekend on 12th and 13th September.
