MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF HARWICH TOWN COUNCIL
held at
THE 1912 CENTRE, COW LANE, HARWICH
on
29th JUNE 2011 at 7.40pm

34/11 APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE
Apologies were received from Councillors Flavell and Todd.
35/11 DECLARATIONS OF MEMBERS’ INTERESTS
Cllr I Henderson declared an interest with regard to the response from Harwich
Haven Authority as a Board member.
36/11 CAR PARKING
Cllr I Henderson left the room whilst remaining members discussed
correspondence received from Harwich Haven Authority, Harwich Dock Co. Ltd
and Tendring District Council in response to letters from HTC regarding the
problem of parking in Harwich.
Various issues were discussed including a) the responsibility for providing
parking, b) whether permits already issued were being used to their full potential
and c) what further measures can be taken.
In relation to responses from both Harwich Haven Authority and Harwich Dock
Co. Ltd it was RESOLVED: to note the replies.
Cllr I Henderson returned to the room.
In relation to the response from TDC it was RESOLVED: to write back to TDC
to a) request clarification/identification of the ‘assets’ to which they refer in their
letter, b) inform them that no single Councillor can act on behalf of the Council,
but can only liaise, and c) to suggest that they may want to contact local
businesses in the area to see if they can offer any assistance.
It was further RESOLVED to write to Bernard Jenkin MP, copying TDC, to
inform his that Harwich is now desperate for a solution to the parking problem
and HTC believe that Network Rail may have the solution with regard to the land
at Harwich Train/Bus station, and to enquire if he can assist in moving this
forward.
