Present: Councillors Brown, Calver, Day, Fowler, I Henderson, J Henderson, King, McLeod, Morrison, Nicholson, C Powell, F Powell, Thompson and Thurlow
In the Chair: Councillor Todd

Also present: 6 members of the public and 1 member of the press

Public Question Time: Betty Holbrook asked about whether Planning Committee members actually visited the sites of the applications in question to enable an informed decision. Cllr McLeod confirmed that scheduled visits are undertaken by TDC, which proved useful for those not familiar with the area. Cllr Morrison said that councillors from each ward would be familiar with the sites/areas, but there are only a set number of reasons (material considerations) on which an application can be objected. Cllr Brown confirmed he comes and looks at the full hard copy plans and follows up with a site visit if necessary. Cllr J Henderson confirmed that TDC received advanced information if there are matters of concern raised by members of the public, and councillors will liaise directly with them if necessary. Cllr Fowler informed all that Public Access is invaluable for finding all pertinent information.

The Committee considered a schedule of planning applications for weeks ending 28th March, 4th April and 11th April.
RESOLVED: Recommendations in Appendix ‘A’ be submitted to Tendring District Council.

  • The Clerk gave notification of a withdrawn application – 14/00151/DETAIL – Land adjacent 1 Dove House Cottages, Oakley Road
  • The Clerk gave notification of an approved application – 14/00164/FUL – Asda Stores, Main Road, Harwich
  • Cllr Calver raised concerns over a member of the public not receiving a reply to concerns raised with the Planning Portfolio Holder over the condition of Pound Farm. He has taken this up with the Chief Executive. Cllr Calver suggested HTC write to the TDC Leader to request that any concerns raised to members of cabinet, should be responded to in a reasonable timeframe.
